How many interpreting teams do I need?

The rule of thumb is: the number of languages to be used at your meeting minus one is the number of interpreting teams you need.

If for example you have guests from Germany visiting you, an interpreting team will be able to translate from English into German and back. If you have a bigger conference with participants speaking, say, English, German, and French, then you will need two teams – one interpreting from German into English and back and one from French into English and back. In this case English would be your main conference language but of course it would work with either German or French as the main conference language as well. Translations from German into French would be taken care of by relay translation.
